How it works
Photograph both sides
Lay the coin flat in good light. The app checks the photo before sending it and asks you to retake it if the coin is too small, blurry or too dark.
See the match
You get the most likely coin with a confidence level, up to two alternatives, and the details worth checking yourself, such as a small date or a mint mark.
Check the price, save it
Pick the condition closest to your coin to see the catalog estimate. Add it to your collection, which stays on your phone.
What makes Mintwise different
We would rather tell you we are unsure than give you a confident wrong answer.
Shows how sure it is
Every result comes with a confidence level and the reasons for the match. If the year could not be read reliably, the app says so and asks you to confirm it. If the coin is not recognized, you are told plainly, not given a guess.
Prices with a source and a date
Price estimates come from the Numista catalog, by condition, with the date they were retrieved and the Numista catalog number (N#) so you can check them yourself.
No ads
No banners, no full-screen ads, no ad tracking. The app is paid for by an optional subscription, nothing else.
Try before you pay
Your first 3 scans are free, with no card and no account needed. Scans that fail because the coin is not recognized or because of a network or server error do not count.
Clear pricing, easy to cancel
The price and billing period are shown before you subscribe. The close button is easy to find. You can cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play settings, and the app links you there.
Your collection stays with you

What Mintwise does not do
So you know what to expect before you start.
- It does not find error coins. Mintwise identifies the coin type and issue, not minting errors or varieties that need a close expert look.
- It does not grade your coin. You choose the condition closest to your coin; each level has a short description to help.
- It does not buy or sell coins. There is no marketplace and we make no offers. Prices are catalog estimates, not what a dealer will pay you.
- It is not an appraisal. For a coin that may be valuable, have it authenticated by a grading service such as PCGS or NGC before you sell.
